Unprecedented Times

The spring of 2020 brought huge changes for all of us – not least of all here in Spain.

On Friday March 13th many regions started to announce close downs to try to halt the progress of Corona Virus and stop it’s spread from badly hit areas like Cataluña and particularly Madrid. A considerable number of people had already fled Madrid — the most affected region of Spain.

The region of Murcia announced confinements in the popular coastal towns of Cartagena, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares, La Unión, Mazarrón and Águilas. Freedom of movement was restricted for 14 days and all businesses (except groceries and pharmacies) were told to shut down. Madrid and Valencia announced close downs of all bars from Saturday!

  • On Saturday 14th March, the government declared a "State of Alarm" and told 46 million citizens that they could leave their homes only under the following circumstances:-
  • to buy groceries
  • to go the the pharmacy
  • to go to the bank
  • to go to the hospital
  • to take care of dependents

When you did go out then it has to be 1 at a time – only 1 person is allowed in a car.
Some businesses like banks were allowed to continue to open – but most business were closed to the public.

Unlike in most European countries we were not even allowed out to exercise or just go for a simple walk to clear our heads.
The only time it was allowed to go out of the house is to take your rubbish to the bin!

Even stricter conditions were imposed a short while later plus . . .
all hotels, B&Bs and holiday apartments were told that guests had to leave by 26th March!

So Piso Pomsol said goodbye to it’s winter guests and we closed.

When will we be re-opening?

The apartment was allowed to open again on 11th May, although only to people from the Murcia area.
From 21st June we can also open for ALL visitors – with no quarantine restrictions.
Although the position regarding UK residents having to quarantine on return to UK is still unclear.

I’m sure that lots of people will want to get away for a short break after being on “Lockdown” for a long period of time.
The Costa Calida area is a perfect place for this. There are miles of beaches to walk and there are lots of open spaces inland where you can head for a day out, so you can maintain a good distance from other people!
If you are searching some peace and solitude, or just wanting to recharge the batteries, Piso Pomsol @ Roda Golf is a great place to do this. You can just sit on the balcony or chill out in the garden. You can read a good book or just relax in the sunshine listening to some music via your phone headset or one of the CDs in our extensive music library !

Cleaning Routine

If you check out our reviews here on our website and on Trip Advisor and HomeAway you will see that we always clean to an extremely high standard.

However, we will now be doing even more to ensure that everything is cleaned and sanitised between each guests stay as per the guidelines issued by the Instituto para la Calidad Turística Española (ICTE).

Have a look at our new cleaning routine.

Adjusted Cancellation Policy

In light of the Corona Virus Outbreak, and the potential uncertainty over when we will be able to open again, we have adjusted out cancellation policy for the short term:

  • For all bookings already made for stays in 2020 – the terms and conditions for when you booked still apply. However, we are offering to change your reservation free of charge – so you can move your dates up to end December 2021. We agree to keep 2020 prices, and you can carry your deposit over to the new dates, should you feel uncomfortable staying over that period.
  • For any new bookings from June to September, we still require a 50% deposit, but will accept cancellation up to 15 days before arrival.
If you cancel more than 15 days before arrival, we will refund any money you have already paid.
The balance is due 14 days before arrival.
Please note though : illness and your boss changing his/her mind and cancelling your leave do not qualify.
Usual rules then apply – if we can rent the apartment to someone else, you get back a percentage of whatever we can re-let it for.
  • Force majeure. If you book to stay between June and September, but can’t get here due to force majeure (mainly – flights are cancelled or moved, your government or the Spanish government says you are not allowed to travel) then you can re-schedule your holiday for any time up to the end of 2021 with no penalty and no price change – provided it is in the same seasonal band. Changes to a higher band will be charged the price difference.
  • If any restrictions are re-imposed, we will review our policy in line with new announcements.
If you do have any concerns, please contact us.

Remember that you will always get the best price and offer overall when you book direct with us at Piso Pomsol @ Roda Golf, and you are putting more money back into the local economy, and not giving it to the large corporate online travel agents.

Read about why you should always #BookDirect.

We hope this offers some comfort and certainty in these uncertain times, and we ask all of you at the moment to stay at home and stay safe, and hope to see you very soon.

Our best wishes to you all

Bev & Mike
